George Town has a proud sporting tradition as well as natural assets throughout the municipality that facilitate a wide range of recreational pursuits.  The Council is committed to ongoing planning for and provision of facilities that enable residents to enjoy a range of organised and non-organised recreational activities, using both traditional sporting facilities and less formal facilities (such as walking tracks, playgrounds, pontoons, etc).

Sports Complex Advisory Committee
The Sports Complex Advisory Committee was formed to advise Council on development and maintenance of recreation and sports facilities at the George Town Sports Complex in Marguerite Street.  Sports undertaken within the complex include: Football, Cricket, Soccer, Tennis and Cycling. Contact the Council or the relevant sports club for more information.

George Town Community Centre (YMCA), Friend Street
The George Town Community Centre is home to indoor sports and recreation, including: Badminton, Skating, Judo, Weight Training, Scouts, and an after school recreation program.  Contact the Council for more information. Click here for details of fees.

George Town Swimming Pool, William Street
The George Town Swimming Pool caters to all ages and abilities.  It is open to the public from October through to March, with single, multiple or season tickets available - the waterslide is free.  The Swimming Pool is available for use by swimming clubs, day visitors, school groups, swimming carnivals and for private hire.  A Learn to Swim program is also provided by qualified instructors. Community Halls and Sports Grounds
Most communities within the George Town Council area have access to local facilities, such as sports grounds, halls, walking tracks, reserves, boating ramps and public pontoons.  In most cases the facilities are managed locally by community committees on behalf of the Council.  For more information contact either the relevant sports club or community/progress association.  Hall hire for community halls can be arranged by contacting the relevant organisation.
