

It is the responsibility of Council's Municipal Inspector to impound any dog found in the municipality unattended by its owner, or any dog which has been identified as a dangerous dog. In some instances it may be difficult to locate the owners if the dog is not registered.
Note that current impoundment fees are as follows:
Under Section 35(5) of the Dog Control Act 2000, if after five (5) working days after the notice has been given to the owner, and the owner does not reclaim the dog, the General Manager may sell, destroy or otherwise dispose of the dog.
As at todays date - Tuesday, 25th November 2008 the following dog/s are currently impounded. Please contact Council's Municipal Inspector on 6382 8800 or email council@georgetown.tas.gov.au if you believe you are the owner of the impounded dog/s.

In some instances where the owner cannot be located, Council will place the dog up for adoption.
