George Town Council has agreed that it will proceed with the redevelopment of the Memorial Hall complex and immediate precinct in Regent Square and to consider integration of existing recreation uses located at the existing Community Centre building in Friend Street, George Town. The Council thought it was important to involve community representatives in developing the concept and held a Value Management Workshop, facilitated by Global Value Management Pty Ltd, on 31st August and 1st September. Following are the concept plans for the redevelopment of the Memorial Hall
Stage 1 involves relocation of the male toilets so the Hall can be used during redevelopment of the western service wing. The forecourt and entry could also be done at this stage.
Stage 2 represents building the infrastructure for the new development, including catering kitchen for functions upto 250 people, storage facilities for community groups, upgrade to Hall stage & 3 multi purpose areas. These multi purpose areas would be designed to be suitable for low impact recreation activities as well as functions or events.
Stage 3 represents the capacity for the redevelopment to combine upto 3 multi purpose areas, cultural activies in the Hall & recreation training in the additional sport wing.The areas include: recreation hall suitable for indoor netball court.change and toilet facilities accessible from regent square new catering kitchen for upto 250 guests (with associated hiring and equipment store), multi purpose foyer and gallery area storage, supper room and bar, back of stage and change rooms, up graded S.E.S room with kitchenette for small functions.
